In my time there, I completed secondary band methods, elementary band methods, elementary general music methods, as well as my student teaching at Morrow Elementary (band and general music) and Reed Middle Schools (band and general music) in the Central Islip School District on Long Island. I continued my education and obtained my Master of Music Education degree at the State University of New York at Potsdam. Read More

I believe in the philosophy of and empty cup. My lessons are not built for me to tell the student what to do, but rather learn how they learn and research the best practices for reaching that student. There is no "cookie cutter" method that works for all students, because everyone learns and comprehends a little bit differently. I remain sensitive to that and patient with my students. It always gets me when a student that is stuck on a part of their music finally understands and performs the passage perfectly. Read More

Encouraging practice habits that promote mental and physical health is at the core of teaching style. I want my students to have fun while they learn, and surprise themselves at how far they can come! I always encourage my students to enter competitions, perform their own recitals, or compose their own music. A cornerstone of my teaching involves catering to each student by helping them achieve their own individual goals. Read More

Also in college I participated in the Jazz band there throughout my 2 years. Often times, I am teaching myself something new that I am not acquainted with. This gives me the ability to always think as a beginner and to figure out how I can convey information to different students with different learning styles. I have experience teaching classical and jazz lessons. I love growing musicians into be the best that they can be. When I first began to study jazz and bought theory books and listened to jazz in order to get better. Read More

If you weren't a musician what do you think you'd be doing instead?
I would be a writer or psychologist. I enjoy writing very much, mostly in Spanish my mother tongue. Also, I am passionate about the mind and the understanding of human behavior and the like.

When will I start to see results?
You will notice the difference a few minutes after we start the first lesson. In my class, I always ask the students to try several options, and then I encourage them to analyze the results.

Why did you choose your primary instrument?
It was love at "first hearing". I was an 8-years old girl waiting for her mother to pick her up at the school of music. I haven't chosen an instrument yet and only attended to the music theory class. But one day I heard a guy playing this instrument, the clarinet. I fell in love immediately!

What musical accomplishments are you most proud of?
The 57 ARD Music Competition Munich (2008) has been one of the greatest experiences of my life! I was in my twenties, and I still lived in Venezuela, my homeland. It was an honor and great privilege to qualify for this international contest as a Latin American and Venezuelan. Which was even more special after the first round when I was told "miss Borregales, you passed to the second round, congratulations!"

What is your favorite style/genre of music to play and why?
I am a music lover. Thus, there is no room for having any favorite style or genre. Similar to food, when there is coherence and a good proportion of the elements then you find harmony, beauty, good taste and so on. In the case of music, I strongly believe that we need to be open-minded to understand the different contexts and paradigms found in music history through time.

If you have a Music Degree, what is it in (Performance, Education, Musicology, Theory, Composition, etc) and why did you choose that degree?
My music degree is in Performance. I have had great experiences as a performer in different formats including orchestra, chamber music and solo. I love to be on stage!

What advice do you have about practicing effectively?
Make pauses, these are fundamentals in any performance practice. We must take care of our body and mind. We are a very special type of athletes.

What do you think is the hardest thing to master on your instrument?
Sound concept! It is important to have a reference and create your own sound from there. Although you might change this in the future, you need to start from something. So, my advice is that you must listen to as many recordings as you can, attend to live performances, and try to identify what do you like and why, you need to describe it. That way you start creating a concept.
