I am a drummer, composer, and educator born and raised in the Los Angeles area. I have been playing professionally and teaching since I was about 16 years old. I'm an enthusiastic and patient teacher who focuses on the student's need. No two lessons are ever the same. In our first lesson we will talk about where you are at and see where you want to get with your instrument. No matter what level you are on, or how serious you want to take it, we can craft a lesson plan that is perfect for you. I like to emphasize musicality over technicality, and we learn these things through examining the songs we love the most. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with CAGED System. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance looking into different genres such as RnB, Blues, Rock, Pop, Jazz. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. 5 minutes of warm up, 25 of theory, 20 of repertoire and 5 of talking about the next class. Teaching the most basic concepts in how to build a chord or a scale by using formulas is my favorite way to approach the lesson. An individual's understanding of music is always changing therefore I feel it is better to change with them. Using methods which are proven is important, but the idea of improvisation during a lesson always keeps the interest for me and the student. Of course this depends completely on the age and the experience of a student. Read More

When I receive a new student the first thing I do is assess where they are technically and what their interests are. From there I develop custom lesson plans that are design to improve a certain technique while learning new music. For example if a student comes in and really loves Michael Jackson's music but doesn't know how to hold the drumsticks or read music, I will give them basic exercises to improve their lack of technical ability and then we'll apply it to a song. For all students I typically teach from Musicians Institute’s curriculum. This curriculum is tailored in a clear and concise form to progress chronologically from the bottom up. The books I use can help to develop performance, reading, and technique etc at levels beginner through advanced. Most kids I try to teach with additional factors to keep lessons entertaining, and for adults I try to give them as much information as possible while catering to where they are trying to get as a drummer as opposed to the overall knowledge a kid needs. For the begginer I like to start by exploring and accessing their ability to do anything musical in the drumset while showing them some very basic and familiar drum beats. Shortly after I introduce them to the foundations and building blocks of drum playing through visual, auditive cues as well as introducing music theory knowledge. Music reading is one of the most important skill to learn as you progress. Drum Books will be used for the classes For intermediate and Advance , I also make an accessment to find out where they are in terms of drum technique, drum culture, all the music styles that they are familiar as well as unfamiliar with.
