My methods vary depending on the situation. I start by getting to know my students in an effort to learn their musical likes and dislikes only then can I design a lesson that will allow each student to get the best results. Of course, I always include the basics ie... sight reading, notation, hand positions and breathing but I think the most important aspect of music is focusing on the emotion and message in each note or phrase. I am open to a wide variety of teaching methods! By not committing to one specific method, I allow myself to be flexible and respond to my student's needs. For example; if a student has limited eyesight, as a previous student of mine had, I will focus on teaching by-wrought rather than by using written notation. I take extreme care planning lesson plans for my students, and often find myself thinking what would best help my students in my off time. Read More

I am a very motivated instructor who loves giving musical instruction to anyone that is excited about music. I love teaching and talking about all different genres of music and learning about other people's influences and musical experiences. I graduated from the Berklee College of Music in Boston in 2012 and have been teaching guitar lessons in the East Bay area since moving back. I've been fortunate enough to study with some world class musicians and to perform with professional bands since I was 16 years old. Read More

My teaching method for complete beginners is to take examples from method books such as the Aaron Shearer method book, and apply it so that the student can become accustomed to using their fingers to pluck and frets strings. After they get a sense of how to use their hands on the instrument, I would automatically start teaching pieces. I believe that pieces are the most practical way to learn an instrument because first, playing pieces is the goal that we want to achieve in the first place and second, I believe that all of the techniques that are needed when playing an instrument are all included in pieces. I discuss with you what you want to achieve; playing your favorite songs, writing your own, improvising, playing with others, etc. and then we build a plan to develop the supporting skills to accomplish this goal. I focus on imparting clear instruction and advice, paying close attention to what is or isn't working for you to help you refine and improve your playing. Together we'll ensure you understand the fretboard up and down, filling in any gaps in knowledge and connecting all of the dots until you feel confident moving around it. Read More

I am a student of the Music Department at the University of Pennsylvania and I am seeking employment in fields relevant to my passion: music. I am studying jazz drums and general music theory. I am a member of the school's big band program, having also acted as business manager, booking gigs and performing all around Philadelphia. I also play with multiple groups outside of school. I have over a decade of experience playing guitar, bass, and drums as well as strong foundational experience in vocalization and keyboard. Read More

With young students, I teach using the Royal Conservatory method. These books provide a good balance of technical development and quaity music. Once technical foundations are estabished, I will add ear training as well as theory and improvisation. For older students, I generally let them be the guide- whatever you want to work on is fine with me. Regardless of style, I try to make each lesson musical and fun. Read More
