Instruments: Piano Guitar Violin
I started learning piano in first grade. I learned music theory, and it helped me learn other instruments quickly. In Middle School, I learned violin very quickly because I had the fundamentals down. After high school, my parents wanted me to have a financially stable career. I studied business in college, but ended up becoming a Middle School teacher. Not only did I teach math, I was also their music teacher for their after school music teacher. Read More

I also give the student solo pieces for his/her level. I have my students keep a lesson assignment journal in a blank manuscript book, in which I also write playing tips, exercises and songs tailored to each student. A set practice routine is a must in order to improve. So, I teach my students how to practice correctly, I provide practice records for my students to keep, and I discuss and set realistic practice goals for my students. Read More

My wife Chappell and I collaborate on composing, recording, and performance. After a full time music adventure, I followed the muse of story-telling and poetry to San Francisco State University’s Creative Writing program (B.A. ‘93, M.A. ‘95). My goal as a teacher is to help the student achieve what they desire in their piano playing, to grow their love of music, to awaken the joy of creative expression and appreciation for beauty. Instruments: Trumpet Trombone Saxophone Flute Clarinet
My style is very simple: Dare to be great. I have found that performance in music is believing in yourself. That can only come when you have been taught good fundamentals coupled with freedom of expression to make mistakes. Only then, we have breakthroughs. Only then, we start having fun. Only then, we have the courage to be great. Then you are great. ...and the rest is history. Having said that, I inspire, not drive, my students. Read More
Instruments: Piano
For the last 15 years, my teaching has focusing on two parts: highly advanced students from music schools, and amatuear students age from 4-76. I have worked in many music schools teaching piano major and minor students preparing for professional performance careers. Including broad selections for repertoire, constant developing of finger strength and technique, preparing for competitions, auditions, and performances. I've taught in these music schools including 2 elementary, 3 middle, 4 high schools, and 2 music departments of universities. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet Trombone Euphonium
For beginners, I use the Standards of Excellence book, especially if they are young children because that is the book that they will most likely use in middle school or high school. These books are good for teaching the fundamentals. I also assign a solo piece based on skill level along with an excerpt of a song that the student wants to learn. For more advanced students I use the Arban's book because all trumpet players learn from this book; from intermediate players all the way up to professionals. Read More
