I find that teaching Classical music, especially Romantic piano music, suits my personality and previous piano experiences the best. Even so, I make it a priority to introduce students to as many different musical styles as possible. Read More
Instruments: Guitar Bass Guitar
My teaching experience dates back to my senior year in high school when I started tutoring younger guitarists in the jazz band. That was 8 years ago. Since then, I've been teaching a number of students in their own homes, online, and even in my band's recording studio! Read More
Instruments: Guitar Trumpet
For all beginning students, I usually will take a lesson or two to assess where the student is at regarding music, depending on (if any) previous experience with music, e.g. piano lessons, etc. For trumpet students, I am not beholden to any one instructional method book. Usually, I will select whichever one I feel the student will be most successful utilizing. A couple of examples of method books I use are Standards of Excellence and Student Instructional Course. Instruments: Trumpet Trombone Saxophone Flute Clarinet Euphonium
With beginning and other school age students, I work with any lesson book or material given to them from their director or teacher, regardless of the method book. From my learning, teaching experience and work in music retail I am familiar with most of the method books in use, especially Standards of Excellence, Rubank, Essential Elements and others. I also am knowledgeable in other intermediate and advanced books, such as Klos, Arbans, and Clarke. Read More
Instruments: Piano Violin Harp
My teaching experience started in high school when I started teaching harp and piano part time. I had a close relationship with my music teachers growing up and I hope to establish the same type of relationship with my own students as I have with previous ones. It's also important that there is a balance between fun and time put in. Without practice, one cannot play an instrument well. I hope to encourage my students to practice so that they accomplish a level of success that motivates them to continue enjoying music for the rest of their life. Read More
Instruments: Piano
I do insist that each student practice one to two hours a day based on what they are taught. This includes, but is not limited to finger exercises, drills, posture and any thing that will make playing better for them. I try to encourage them to have fun while learning, this keeps them more interested in continuing with their desire to learn. Read More
Instruments: Piano
I first fell in love with the piano when I was 3 years old, but unfortunately was not able to start taking lessons until I was 11. When I was 16, friends and family started asking me to teach them to play and I developed a love for teaching. At college I decided to study piano teaching to become the best teacher possible. I am a member of the Music Teacher's National Association and the Wisconsin Music Teacher'sAssociation. Read More
