My teaching expereince dates back to before I graduated undergraduate school. Since I had a semester to wait for Commencement, I was afforded an opportunity to work as a Teacher assistant, in an Open Classroom Learning Environment. This immediately preceded a very rewarding Student Teaching experience in the rural southern state of North Carolina. I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. In 1977, I graduated from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Performance. In 1999, I was certified to teach Music K-12 by the state of North Carolina after attending NC Central University. Performing all over the US has been one of the greater experiences of my life as a musician, and I've had the opportunity to play in North Carolina, Virginia, Texas, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Kansas, Alabama, Ohio, Florida, and Connecticut. My teaching experience dates back to 1990, when, while homeschooling my children, I taught drums and guitar as part of their curriculum. Since then I have given lessons on a part time basis. Through my experience, I have become skillful in identifying a student's strengths, weaknesses and learning style. My focus is on challenging students at their current skill level while encouraging them and making the process of learning fun. I find the most rewarding thing about teaching music is the spark that ignites in each individual student to blossom into a musician. The importance of each student is reflected in individual curriculum designed or each student. I believe in the idea that no student is the same. I started as a very motivated child in the 2 nd grade and became a student of a famous professional performer. I loved Music and the Piano, studied violin, cello, and double bass. I performed often in local concerts, theatre, and went on a tour around the State of Michigan, during High School. I was accepted as a protege at a University when I was 16; Michigan State University. I studied Music Theory Composition and began having my own compositions played by area musicians. Read More
