I believe in training students both as instrumentalists and as overall musicians. Thus, beginning cello students will start with the Suzuki method to get basic technique down. Then, as a student improves, solo repertoire will be introduced from both the Suzuki method and other sources. Once a student has reached a state of proficiency, I will cater my teaching instead to the style that the student prefers. We can continue in classical music, or transition to contemporary styles. For beginner students who are children, I like to teach them without method books and get them accostumed to playing the instrument by teaching them simple melodies.I try to incorporate games in order to keep the lessons fun and interesting. I believe that with teaching any subject, especially music, the most important thing for a teacher to do is to inspire the student to become a better musician and have him or her practice because they want to, not to just simply fufill a requirement for the lesson for next week.
