My approach to playing and teaching music is to never limit your options! Providing a well-rounded understanding of your instrument and its capacity to create art that you enjoy is first and foremost. When I began taking lessons, I put in time to learn technique, scales, arpeggios, but also had a teacher help me explore learning songs from recordings, aural transcriptions that transfer to your instrument. This not only helped me stay interested in music, but also broadened my taste in music, period! Read More

I don't think any one teaching method is correct for all students, but I do think one process does - flexibility. Based on the goals and needs of the student, I like to cater lessons such that short-term goals are achieved as inspiration to master long-term goals. Whether that is learning one's favorite songs one at a time, or reading music, or learning fretboard theory, or a combination of them towards a dynamic improvisational style. Read More

I have found the last few years very rewarding as students become musicians. Since my first student I taught in 2004, through the days I taught at a music school, up right on to the present moment, I love passing the music onward as it was passed to me. Being a multi generational musician, it's important to me to teach this great artform and pass it down through generations. I also like to let my students know that "music lasts a lifetime." Because, if my students practice the material five days a week, for a minimum of 30 minutes, their skills as well as confidence will grow. Read More

My philosophy is a student-first philosophy. I come from a pop/jazz background, and love to work with students on learning songs they loveit keeps the lessons both engaging and educational. Students who are interested in pursuing music in some capacity, or those who wish to improve their chops: I am the teacher for you! Read More
