My spark of inspiration to teach comes from my years performing in college as part of my own band, as well as jazz ensemble and guitar ensemble. My first experience with teaching came from my first live shows with Art Wavey. As a songwriter, another duty often times overlooked is teaching the parts needed to complement the song. By explaining the theory behind the compositions in a clear, concise way, as well through direct representation through playing, I was able to convey complex ideas in a way that not only transferred to those being taught, but made it enjoyable as well. For beginning students, I always start with technique and posture, as improper technique can be catastrophic to your playing down the line. From there we'll cover the basics, such as chord shapes, strumming patterns, and scales. On top of that, each student will receive a "riff of the week", a guitar riff from a song that is in line with their particular music tastes. My teaching experience began right after high school where I joined my musician friends teaching at K-Piano Music Academy. I taught children beginner piano schools K-5 in an afterschool program and have been teaching aspiring musicians mostly online since 2020. Now I want to expand my experience to the people in our community, encouraging musicians of all skill levels to bring them to another level they might not have expected. I studied in Physics, Astronomy, Engineering, and Mathematics, but music and teaching have always been in my life, teaching students throughout high school and college at UGA as a second job. I took trips to Mexico over the summers from 2002-2005 playing music for children and students in between manual labor mission work.
