My teaching experience begins back in my college years as I initially began teaching beginner piano at an after school program. Since college, I’ve been able to work in public schools around the NYC area, teach privately for several music institutions in Long Island, conducted hundreds of online video lessons, and have also been able to successfully build my own in-home roster of students as well. I like to remind students that in order to be better, they must be proactive, and that’s where practice plays a vital role in the development of any music students are learning. Read More

Most of my teaching experience so far has been in the concert/marching band, teaching middle school band and high school and university marching percussion ensembles, which I have been doing for the last eight years. I have also taught individual percussion lessons to high school and college students off and on throughout my undergraduate and graduate careers. I have taught drum set lessons for five years so far. My performance experience includes seven years of marching band, eleven years of concert band/wind ensemble, two years of orchestra, five years of drumming for the worship team, three years drumming with Depot Street, and one year drumming with Crimson Sunset. My methods will depend to a degree upon each individual student's musical tastes and ambitions. For example, I would put much more focus on developing picking hand foundations for a classical guitarist while the fretting hand would receive more early attention for the metal shredder. This said, there are common general goals that can be set for all guitarists as they track and improve their skills. The guitar is a physical tool, and it is learned as such: the student learns how to handle the tool, how to carry out the various uses of the tool, and how to apply the tool's uses to the art they wish to create. I spend a lot of time performing on various stages, playing guitar, banjo, and keyboards primarily. I love sharing what I know with others, and I especially love seeing someone I've taught succeed in their chosen path. I've taught young children how to collaborate musically, I've taught people to play the banjo, guitar, piano, and I've taught music classes to bigger groups. One thing I'm very proud of about myself is my ability to improvise and adapt my musicianship to what is required in a given opportunity. Read More

My approach to teaching encourages the student to not only learn at their own pace, but is judgment free and allows for the student to grow as s/he wishes. Dr Suzuki's said that "musical ability is not an inborn talent but an ability which can be developed. Any child who is properly trained can develop musical ability just as all children develop the ability to speak their mother tongue. Read More
