If it's classical on doublebass the book of choice is Simandl or something that teaches fingerings. Maybe the bassist wants to play jazz. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Guitar Method One. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, including being able to read both staff and tab and have some basic playing technique , I will begin to introduce solo repertoire.
