Every student learns a different way and I always take the first lesson to evaluate what the student is passionate about. Some students want to get straight to playing songs and some want to learn sheet music first. I am comfortable with starting anyway they need. If the student starts to get bored after a few lessons I try and bring in new toys related to the instrument such as a new kind of cymbal or a slide guitar to try and spark some inspiration again! I take a very straightforward approach to teaching and I provide an example of what it can look like if practiced adequately. I ask my students what goals they have and formulate a curriculum based on where they want to be as a player. From there, we choose the best techniques, songs and artists to learn from. This way, students learn to really fall in love with practice and also playing and are thus encouraged to keep practicing. Read More

I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. Teaching is a huge responsibilty that I do not take light heartedly. If we as teachers do a suburd job, it will have a huge effect on a students over all life. Musical education teaches us about the mind and body and balance between the two. It teaches us logic, problem solving, and creative thinking in balance with eachother.
