I started my private instruction practice during my high school years, where I would teach friends and students from my school. Through my musical career, I have taught students from age 6 to age 65. Beginning students are taught to read bass clef and are given introductory exercises to familiarize them with the strings and fingerboard. From there, I begin to teach more advanced music theory to build off of the established foundation. Some of the books I use for theory study are the Real Books and Dover Music's Bach Keyboard Music for jazz and classical theory respectively. Additional materials for intermediate and advanced students include Oscar Stagnaro's Latin Bass Book, Jimmy Haslip's Melodic Bass Library, and the Charlie Parker Omnibook depending on the student's genre of interest. I want to foster a love and understanding of the instrument in my students.  Therefore, I always make sure to pace my lessons with each student according to them.  This means I set realistic goals for them and help guide them to accomplishing these goals themselves.  These accomplishments will help fuel the desire to progress, and make my students hungry for more.  By finding and encouraging the musical interests of my students, I can keep the lessons both fun and informative.
