Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. My teaching experience extends from my undergraduate years where I taught guitar at the Univeristy of Iowa. Since then, I have taught all age ranges of students, from age five onwards, both in person and online. The material I teach covers scales, chords, and music theory. We can practice a variety of exercises that help improve your rhythm and dexterity. In order to tie everything together, I think it is important to play music with each other and along with recorded music as an example. Admittedly, the content of scales, chords, and music theory in itself can be dry. This is why I tend to customize how to practice something like a pentatonic minor scale. Read More

I implement materials of my own design mixed with songs of the students choosong and tastes, and typically have them up and playing a song or two that they like in a couple of lessons. All ages, styles, and expereince levels are welcome. For reading, I like to use a combination of notation, tabs and chord diagrams. And while I dont absolutely insist that the student learn to read notation, I do strongly encourage it. Read More

The difference between a musician who can play a bunch of songs ,and a musician who can play any song that he/she can get into their head, is simply this: The persons ability to identify , in musical terms, the music that they hear-either from a recording, or in his/her head. That is where my students have an advantage-because that is exactly what they learn.
