I like to find songs that students really care about, because then they will be more interested in learning them. My teaching style is very flexible in that all students are different, and learn in different ways. Ive taught really young kids and Ive also taught seniors. My program is one that I have developed over the last 18 years. I use no method books. I ask my students to bring a blank manuscript book that I will fill up as we go forward. I also highly encourage all of my students to have a keyboard of some kind available to them, IE: a piano, organ, or even one of those battery-powered little CASIO keyboards that one can buy for $15-25 at a Salvation Army or Goodwill store. My teaching style is knowledgeable, but also very fun and laid back. I will always go at the students pace, whether it is fast or slow. I will teach students basics in sight reading, and the best way to practice a piece of music. I will let the student know what they have been doing well and what they need to work on. If they are ever having trouble with a technique or piece of music, I will be sure to give that issue extra attention and figure out why the student is having difficulties. Read More

I review the list and select an appropriate song for them to learn based on the complexity of the song and their ability. Read More

I like to utilize many avenues of teaching and learning music. There are a handful of books I like to use for both beginner and advanced guitarists. The internet is a vast resource that contains just about anything you would want to know! Google and YouTube are great for learning songs, techniques and theory without need for a teacher or even an instrument. For intermediate to advanced players, I have some books, authors, guitarists and Internet personalities I might point to. Read More
