I am a multi-genre cellist who is passionate about helping students reach their full potential as musicians. I have been classically trained since the age of three, and studied classical theory and composition at Harvard University. However, towards the end of my college experience I began to learn jazz and blues and ended up pursuing a Master's degree in Contemporary Performance. I enjoy teaching students of all ages. My teaching method and strategy is Applied Teaching, with a standard system of scales, etudes, and pieces from the cello literature. I am not a Suzuki instructor, but am always happy to refer a student to a Suzuki teacher. However, it is certainly possible to teach any student in either Suzuki or Applied Teaching, or both. Depending on the student's playing desires, I introduce a wide variety of solo pieces and can help shape effective performance skills. For beginning students, I start with the Essential Elements book. If the student has already taken lessons or is in their school band/orchestra, I encourage moving onto the Rubank Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced method books depending on ability. Once a student has proven that they are able to handle it, I will start on solo repertoire.
