No single learning path works for all students, it’s about finding and reinforcing your strengths, and empowering you to solve your own problems. As my old cello teacher used to say, “I’m not teaching you how to play the cello, I’m teaching you how to teach yourself how to play the cello.” Providing students with the tools and guidance they need to practice and improve: that’s what I strive to do. Hello. I am a multi-instrumental musician (playing electric and acoustic guitar, bass, drums, piano, violin, viola and more) and teacher with over thirty years experience playing, studying, writing, performing, teaching and recording music. As a musician, I have sought to take music in new directions by integrating numerous diverse musical and cultural influences into my playing style. As an instructor, I am committed to getting the students the results he or she wants by developing a program specific to the student's individual needs. Read More
Instruments: Piano, Violin, Cello, Viola, Electric Violin
For my beginning students, I typically start with either Essential Elements 2000 for strings or Sound Innovations. Both books give younger students a grasp on the fundamentals of technique. As they grow I then introduce solo repertoire by using the Suzuki Books but also like to add a fiddle book. Sometimes students gradually go either to fiddle or to classical. I try and encourage what they are more comfortable with. For adults, I try to find out what genre of music they enjoy and try to gauge their ability level with a couple playing evaluations. Read More
Instruments: Cello
I have been teaching cello since high school, when I already had 15 years of experience playing the cello. I have taught consistently since then and along the way completed all of the units of Suzuki teacher training. I have studied how to teach with the renowned trainers David Evenchick, Jean Dexter, Pamela Devenport, Carey Cheney, and Avi Friedlander. I continue to study with other teacher trainers whenever possible to continue learning how to teach. Read More

For young students, I typically start with pieces and concepts from the Suzuki books, but generally strive to help students feel excited and comfortable about playing and practicing the instrument. This involves musical games, learning to play by ear, and beginning to learn to read music. With older students, I teach how to practice, how to execute technique, and then tailor lessons to students' goals and interests. Throughout teaching I play duets with students, and encourage students to become comfortable with performance and collaboration. Read More
