My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 8 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in various studios since then. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. My life is unimaginable to me without music. As a music major, I began performing and gigging. I discovered that I enjoyed playing not only classical music, but musicals, pop, and rock as well. Nearer to graduation, I began teaching privately, eventually becoming a full-time public school orchestra teacher in Augusta. Thanks to my Peruvian heritage, I had no shortage of exposure to music and musical expression growing up. From a young age, I danced and sang with family, watched as they made makeshift percussion instruments out of spoons, and pretended to be an expert at the pan flute like the musicians in the videos I watched. I was a cello teacher for a long time in many programs in South America, so I taught different kind of ages and different levels. I want to encourage my students to enter competitions and recitals, as well on composing their own material, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn.
