For my beginning piano students, I like to start with Alfreds performance books and music theory to help assist the note and music reading. My cello students that are still in the beginning stages I like to have using the Suzuki books to help work towards more advanced music and skills. My voice students are all very different so I shape our lesson methods based on what style of singing theyre interested in, but we always begin working on proper breathing and learning solfege. I have been teaching for the last 14 years for other music schools as well as my home studio. I love to help new students from the ages of  4-99  in learning the joys of playing an instrument or instruments that they are going to enjoy. I tend to tailor my method for the individual goals and desires of the student. Generally, for my beginning students, I assign a regiment of short pieces and technical etudes from a variety of method books. I find this to be an effective way to build technique while also cultivating musicality. As a student advances, I begin assigning works from the standard cello repertoire, which includes pieces such as Bach Cello Suites, concertos, and sonatas. Read More

Being a private instructor affords me the opportunity to really tailor each learning experience to my student's needs, personality and musical aspirations. I enjoy the lesson most when my student is enjoying the lesson, so it's important to me that we're working on enjoyable music, making good progress and working hard enough to have fun. I first began teaching during my undergraduate program and have since taught in many different settings and for many different strings instruments. As an orchestra director of a grade and middle school, I was responsible for creating an appropriate string curriculum for my students and I was directly responsible for teaching beginning strings (violin, viola, cello and double bass) through Grade 3 difficulty.
