I have a "less talk, more play" approach to music. People learn instruments because they want to play music, and that is always the focus in my lessons. While some instructors incessantly talk about theory, history, and other music concepts, I prefer to keep the talking to a minimum and have my students play their instrument as much as possible. As the students develop I begin to add supplimentary materials such as etude and scale books. Students can progress from open strings to Bach with ease. In teaching voice, I am sensitive to the delicate nature of young voices and teach total musicianship, including tonal memory, scales, sight-reading, and repertoire. I highly encourage students to sing music they love and feel a real connection to; any style or genre is fair game!
