I follow my teacher's teaching because I have seen that it has worked on so many other people that have become amazing performers, and since my teacher is from the old German school, he is very strict in how technique should be learned. For beginners I start with Friedrich Dotzauer "113 Cello Etudes" to form foundation and technique, After a good foundation, the intermediate level is with Friedrich Dotzauer Exercises for the cello Book 1 and book 2, at this point some repertoire will be introduced to the student as well as the style of repertoire piece that will be studied and practiced, the student will pick repertoire so it can be fun for both parties. Once I graduated college, I began teaching private lessons locally and did virtually at times as well- strings, music theory, and keyboard. I started up and directed a kindermusic program for students ages 2-5 in Erie, PA at a daycare, which grew quickly and required me to be on my toes at all times to keep up with such young students- all about balancing fun and education! After, I continued teaching strings and music theory privately and currently teach as a high school orchestra director. Read More

While I have a general curriculum, I am very flexible and try to adjust to my every student individually. Generally I like to employ books by Suzuki, as I find them very methodical, as well as easily accessible. I supplement the Suzuki books by Alwin Schroeder's 170 foundation studies, and lots of scales and technical exercises. I encourage active listening and work with a student to build confidence performing. In addition to learning the instrument I advise on the business side of music making, making sure you have the knowledge and tools to plug your skills and talent in real life. Read More
