My teaching philosophy is that anyone can learn. Any dreams or goals a student may have, it is my job to make them happen! For beginners, I teach using the Suzuki method. I find that they can be very helpful and that many kids enjoy the songs within them. For intermediate and advanced students, I use a combination of the Suzuki books, chamber music, and outside works. It’s important to me that a student has fun in their lessons, but also accomplishes the goals set at the beginning. I start the lesson explaining what we should try to accomplish by the next lesson, followed by a recap of the last one. Goals should be reasonable enough that the student doesn’t feel overwhelmed, particularly at the beginning, yet challenging enough that they feel like they actually achieve something worthwhile each week. I have been playing cello, piano, and bass for over 20 years. I have played in various orchestras and ensembles including the University of Puget Sound Symphony and the International Honor Orchestra in Vienna, Austria. I have focused on teaching adults and kids for the last 10 years. My diverse training in many styles of music has informed my teaching style.
