Instruments: Piano, Violin, Cello, Viola
I want all of my students to enjoy playing their instruments and develop a deep love for music. I help my students set realistic and achievable goals both short term and long term. It is also important that students are aware of the progress that is made, no matter how big or small! Read More
Instruments: Cello
I am very familiar with the Suzuki method for cello, so I generally work with those books and the Suzuki philosophy of nurturing students and being supportive of them. For young students, getting parents involved in the lessons is fun and super effective and getting to students to learn discipline and progress quickly on the instrument. I am also experienced in using the Essential Elements books and am happy to work with students through those materials. Read More
Instruments: Cello
I began teaching cello in my early 20s, teaching public school strings classes and private pupils while in my undergrad at UTC. I also taught throughout my graduate degree, teaching privately, cover teaching undergraduate students for my teacher, and also teaching college students. In addition, I led orchestra sectionals, coached student chamber music ensembles, sat on jury panels, and wrote and performed programs for entire classes of K-12 students. In addition, I have experience as a professional contracted and freelance classical cellist - I've played with orchestras, recorded sessions, and performed in a string quartet professionally. Instruments: Piano, Violin, Cello, Viola, Electric Violin
For my beginning students, I typically start with either Essential Elements 2000 for strings or Sound Innovations. Both books give younger students a grasp on the fundamentals of technique. As they grow I then introduce solo repertoire by using the Suzuki Books but also like to add a fiddle book. Sometimes students gradually go either to fiddle or to classical. I try and encourage what they are more comfortable with. For adults, I try to find out what genre of music they enjoy and try to gauge their ability level with a couple playing evaluations. Read More

I first began teachng bass guitar in my early twenties. Later in life I worked in both Japan and Thailand, where I studied with master drum teachers and also top piano and violin instructors. After returning to the United States, I entered a program to become a certified guitar instructor, and am the ONLY instructor in my area which has earned these certifications which are specific to several different points of teaching guitar.
