For all of my students, I encourage consistent practicing of their instrument in order for them to grow and build their musical skills. Students are given scales, modern and classical pieces to practice. I find the combinations of these three things let most students see how diverse strings can be. I first began teachng bass guitar in my early twenties.  Later in life I worked in both Japan and Thailand, where I studied with master drum teachers and also top piano and violin instructors.  After returning to the United States, I entered a program to become a certified guitar instructor, and am the ONLY instructor in my area which has earned these certifications which are specific to several different points of teaching guitar. My methods vary as I cater towards the individual and his/her respective needs and wants. Some of the methods and resources I draw from include the Suzuki Method, Effortless Mastery, and the philosophy of Music As A Language. Music is a language and I aim to teach it like one to the best of my ability. As a teacher, my goal is to equip students with the tools they need to succeed at their personal goals, encourage students to become dedicated thinkers and learners, and also to foster a loving relationship with music and social consciousness. I generally focus on teaching students how to practice and problem-solve, and set goals for themselves. Throughout the learning process, I believe it is important to practice and study music in an empowering way, so I want to learn about my students in order to help them practice music in an empowering way that intersects with their lives and understanding of the world around them.
