Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Our music teachers understand that every student has different needs and abilities and therefore the lessons will be planned with that knowledge in mind.

I AM A CLASSICALLY TRAINED MUSICIAN, SO THEREFORE, THE STUDENTS THAT I HAVE TAUGHT OR WILL TEACH WILL BE CLASSICALLY TRAINED. WHAT THAT MEANS IS THAT WE WILL USE WHAT NOW IS COMMONLY THOUGHT OF AS BEST PRACTICES. NOTHING TAKES THE PLACE OF PRACTICE, AND THAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT, BEST, PRACTICE THAT WILL BE STRESSED. For beginning students I tend to start with them learning the basic elements of the instruments and go over exercises that help familiarize them with the instrument. I then will start the student in the Hal Leonard's Essential ELements of books. After they have gained a grasp of the fundamentals I will start to focus more on the type of music they will learn. My starting point for my students is typically having them practice posture, hand position and proper mouthpiece placement. After this has been satisfied, I have the students blow using a breathing exercise. From this, I have the students play the first three notes out of their Habits of Good Musician Book 1. It all started when I took my first drum lesson in the 4th grade. From then on, I wanted to play whenever I could. I played in all my school bands from middle school to high school. Graduated Southern University, home of the world famous "Human Jukebox" which I was a member of for 3 years, as well as playing for my church since I was 13. Along the way I have had the honor of meeting and learning from respected musicians such as Lawrence Jackson (former director of SU Bands), Herman Jackson (Brother of Randy Jackson), Jerry Lee Lane (Marching percussion pioneer) and countless others. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with the lesson books you or I provide, preferably Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More
