I am a young and easygoing instructor looking for beginner and intermediate students to teach and introduce to music. I am a recent graduate from Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. I recently moved to Washington State with my partner for job opportunities in the state. Percussion is my primary instrument, but I learned how to teach other instruments in College. At Michigan State University, I taught undergraduate studio masterclasses and coached undergraduate chamber ensembles. I also worked for three years at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, where I taught private lessons, conducted clarinet and woodwind sectionals, and taught the Music Theory minor course (in addition to several non-music courses). At Iowa State University, I tutored for Introduction to Music Listening (as well as several non-music courses). I have a set methodology that is flexible enough to cater to each individual student. We learn exercises for basic technique, followed by scales and arpeggios, then we work from a method book to address technique issues specific to clarinet. After that, we work on music such as etudes, solos, and ensemble parts for band or orchestra. I also enjoy helping students with pop and jazz pieces that they enjoy, so that they have variety in their practice and become well rounded musicians and can play many styles. Read More
