I am a young and easygoing instructor looking for beginner and intermediate students to teach and introduce to music. I am a recent graduate from Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. I recently moved to Washington State with my partner for job opportunities in the state. Percussion is my primary instrument, but I learned how to teach other instruments in College. I am all about working with my students to discover their unique interests and goals - whether that's nailing their jazz band audition, joining a rock band, preparing a classical piece for a competition, exploring creativity and improvisation, or simply playing at home for their own enjoyment. On guitar my goal is that the student can read in first position, play chords for five major keys and three minor, and to be able to improvise with a pentatonic scale. I start with the Noad beginning classical guitar book and the Guitar Workshop finger-style book (Hal Leonard). I also use various Hal Leonard and Mel Bay books depending on the genre the student is interested in. I use similar methods when teaching mandolin or bass. Read More
