Although I started out on the piano at eight, I switched to tenor sax at the age of 13 on the advice of my doctor, who suggested that playing this horn would help cure me of asthma. I have been a band director for several years teaching elementary, middle school and high school students. I also have experience teaching some private lessons at the college level. As a teacher, I have been teaching students of a wide range of ages and abilities since 2008. I have taught ages of elementary school through adult, and I have found that fundamentals are the key to success at every age. Recently returned from Japan, I served as Co-Principal Clarinetist of the Hyogo Performing Arts Center Orchestra since 2011. With 3 nationwide tours, I performed all over Japan, appearing regularly on the nationally televised program "Daimei no Nai Ongakukai" televised nationally. In 2010 I earned my Master of Music degree at the University of Southern California, studying with master teacher Yehuda Gilad. Those who are beginner and intermediate I usually start with the Rubank series of method books as well as easy to play popular tunes. For those who are at the advanced level I would teach out of the Baermann method book in addition to the Rose studies as well as Kroepsch, Jean-Jean, and Rode.
