My first teaching was in summer music schools, then as an intermediate classroom teacher and music specialist (bands, choirs, musicals, folk dances, recorder, ukulele, classroom music and theory). I earned my Masters and began teaching university but have always taught privately as well. I work with parents to encourage the student to be self-motivated, so I make lessons fun. For beginners, they must learn how to play the instrument. So books like standard of excellence or essential elements are great resources. I will guide them through what the book cannot explain and help them truly internalize aspects of playing their instrument. For more advanced players, we will work on tone, advanced technique, new styles as well as history, modern practices and more. I have been teaching clarinet since 2013. I love teaching all ages, including adults! Music making is a lifelong joy. My K-12 students in the past have been accepted to performing arts high schools, college music programs, All-State bands, All-County bands, youth orchestras, and earned superior ratings at Solo & Ensemble festivals. This led to my interest in being a music education major in college where I gave lessons and taught marching band for 3 years.
