Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. For both Clarinet and Saxophone I like to start in the Rubank Elementary method. As the student progresses, I often will add two books, Learn to Play Duets and also Fun for the Clarinet/Saxophone. The last one are two separate books, but one for each instrument. I usually prescribe adults the same books to start. The methods that I choose to use with my students depends on what they want to learn. Some students want to just play classical music, some pop, some jazz, some marching band, etc. Therefore I do not use the same teaching methods for all students. With that being said, I do make certain that all of my srudents understand the basic elements of music, i.e., time and key signatures, note values, melody, rhythm, harmony, pitch, intonation (if a wind instrument), form, theme and variation, etc. Read More

The methods that I use will be outlined to you before the first lesson. Beginning students learn rudiments and work into repertoire of their own interest as time moves along. Intermediate students and beyond learn should indicate any interests they have musically to have a supplement to lesson materials. I encourage my students to participate in Music Teacher National Association competitions, festivals, and other events when appropriate.
