Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Our music teachers understand that every student has different needs and abilities and therefore the lessons will be planned with that knowledge in mind.

My teaching experience began with giving private lessons in 1997 when I caught the 'teaching bug' seeing someone make actual progress and improvement. My teaching methods and training further developed during pedagogy classes and workshops during and after college. Performance experience includes formal recitals to complete my undergraduate degree, Portland Wind Symphony, Portland Community Wind Band, Northwest Wind Symphony, Opera Theater Oregon, Oregon Symphonic Band, North Coast Symphonic Band, Astoria Music Festival and a variety of small chamber ensembles. I encourage my students to be technically proficient, musically literate, and good listeners. Having these core fundamentals down prepares my students to be able to play any style of music they choose. Lessons are always customized to fit the musical preferences of the student. I use my preferred method books but am able to incorporate the books the student already owns within the lesson plans. I encourage the use of technology such as smartphones, iPads, and play-a-longs as teaching aids. Read More

Typically, I first like to have the student play something they want to play for me - anything they know or like to play! From here, I can take that information and use it to form a plan and we can address fundamentals or skills that need to be worked on. I firmly believe that fundamentals are incredibly important to playing the instrument at the highest level. Alongside work on fundamentals, I will prescribe music that is on par with the level of student so that they are challenged but will be successful. Read More
