I began my musical training at age 8, began playing professionally as a teenager, and have been teaching for 15 years. I graduated from Northern Kentucky University in 2011 with a Bachelors of Music Education, with a minor in Percussion Performance. I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to perform several nights a week around Austin, and to have toured the US multiple times during the past two years. In addition to teaching and performing, I have also written many works for concert band, percussion soloist, chamber groups, jazz ensemble, and percussion ensemble. Read More

On the first lesson you will set short and long term goals you would like to achieve on your playing, and I will then design a lesson plan to achieve those goals. From there on each lesson will be a fun and challenging workshop in which I will help you gain technique and musicality in your favorite music styles, always working toward your goals. Each lesson generally starts off with some assigned work from the previous lesson and then we move on to technique/reading skills exercises. Read More

My experience as a private instructor began as early as when I was a student in college studying music. I have always had a profound passion for teaching at the private level because it really gives me the opportunity to help an individual in a more focused and meticulous manner. My main goal and teaching is to inspire self motivation and make it fun! I like to pick songs that are fun to play and challenging at the same time depending on what level you are at that time. By doing this I think keeping the instrument out and not in the closet is a good start that way if the inspiration hits you and you want to play it is within your reach "guitar stand and wall hangers are ideal" and not in the case the put away " Out of sight out of mind" I suggest buying a music stand for your instruments and or wall hangers which seem to work very well as a display and also so the instrument is within your reach. I am full of energy and love learning as much as I can, but I also understand that full and in depth skill requires time and a certain level of patience and consistency. I relay this to students by repetition (specifically of principles), though I keep it fun and exciting by varying the application. Once the principle is fully grasped, we move on. I also give light, yet fun x22homeworkx22 assignments to keep the student engaged and thinking about music outside of the lesson. Read More
