My teaching style is upbeat, fun and fast paced.  I like to give written notes for reference when I am not with the student as this serves as an awesome aid when practicing.  If there are questions, I am always an email, text or phone call away.  The assignments I give are realistic, goal oriented and based on the student's level of experience, talent or willingness to apply themselves to their instrumental study. My teaching approach focuses on fundamentals of technique, grooves, taste, and good timekeeping. I am interested in a student becoming a good listener and being able to play a variety of musical styles. I integrate rudiments, reading, drum fills, solo ideas, improvisation, and developing a unique style. I use a variety of methods, including skills I heard as a pro drummer on stage in the studio. I make use of books and other lessons depending on the ability level of the student , but I rely on classics like "Stick Control," "Syncopation" and "Accents and Rebounds". Read More

I graduated from Towson University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Performance, earning the music department's Outstanding Achievement in Music Award in 1991. From 1994-1997 I taught applied and ensemble percussion at Shepherd University and, since then, have developed a successful private teaching practice in the Baltimore/Washington area. Many of my students have achieved success at the county, state and professional levels. I am the principal drummer/percussionist at Toby's Dinner Theater in Columbia, MD and perform regularly with the DMV's premier event/party band Retrospect. Read More

My teaching experience consists of spending a year teaching mostly kids, as well as assisting with an elementary school band. I had also studied with a private instructor myself for about 11 years, so I've learned a lot from him. I also spent some time working with the Stages of Healing program at the Walter Reed Military hospital, this was a program that featured artists of all kinds to do workshops and performances for the patrons of the hospital, it also worked closely with a lot of people involved in music therapy.
