In 2000, I left medical school to pursue music and have never regretted the decision!  I went on to receive my bachelor's in 2004 and master's in 2012, both in instrumental music education.  I recently relocated to South Tampa after being a full time 4th-8th band director for 10 years in Chicago.  I also taught kindergarten music and K-3rd group piano.  I have been teaching private lessons on all instruments for 13 years, with an average of 10 students per week in my studio. My approach is focused very much on performance, technicalities, and theory. I believe it is very important for the student to understand how these aspects of playing coincide with each other, and how they are equally essential to music playing. Before giving a student a piece of music to play, I will always play it befoehand and dissect the song into portions that I feel need special attention. I encourage playing with other musicians, and always try to teach the art ofimprovisation, so that the students can learn to play not only by themselves, but with other musicians, using the musicial understanding that it takes to improvise. I am a very versatile and easy going instructor who loves working with music enthusiasts of all age and ranges; I believe you are never too young or old to start learning an instrument. I recently graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology, and an Entrepreneurship minor.
