Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. I began teaching in my college days, when I would help friends learn different instruments. My experience includes working at School of Rock Red Bank, where I taught guitar, drums and bass. Because every student has his/her own learning style, my lessons cater to those styles. I figure out a student's strengths and weaknesses. I acknowledge the accomplishments caused by the strengths while I focus on developing the weaknesses. For example, if a student excels melodically but has trouble maintaining accurate rhythm, I will engage the student in listening to and playing many interesting melodies that require him/her to pay close attention to counting the rhythms in order to master playing the melodies. I began teaching when I was 17 and have a pretty busy schedule of up to 35 students a week! Many of those students still continue to take lessons after 3 years of instruction and have improved beyond their original goals. I find that each student has different interests (rock, jazz, classical, pop, etc.) which is why I enjoy focusing on what they want to learn. I am open to trying exercises with a student regardless of their skill level to see if they can comprehend the lesson. Sometimes, a student with less experience has better luck counting the beat out and putting it together from a mathematical perspective, others prefer to feel the beat first and the physicality comes out of that. Every student is different and I never push them past what they are capable of doing; rather, I like to see, after a while of teaching, if the concepts are resonating on a deeper and more understood level.
