Instruments: Drums, Synthesizer, Djembe

I combine traditional technique and modern A/V technology to teach immersive drum-lessons that accelerate the student drummers skill, musicality, listening, and notation literacy. While I may reach for a book to cite exercises from books like GL Stones Stick Control or example patterns from Hal Leonwards The New Breed, I do not teach by the book for my students. Instead, I survey students inspiration, goals, and learning style to progress from their passion first, with a focus on learning the drum parts of the songs they love, both by ear and charting in notation. I love music, teaching drums, recording bands and making music videos. I am a graduate of Musicians Institute College of Contemporary Music in Hollywood, California with a degree in drum/percussion performance. Since then, I have authored three different drum books and have taught music at Southern California Music School, Pasadena City College, LA Valley College, LA Academy, Music Training Center and several other institutions. Instruments: Drums, Mallet Percussion, Orchestral Percussion, Latin Percussion, Keyboard, Djembe

The material and methods will be based on a student's skill-level and musical goals and interests. For orchestral band students, this would include basic technique, music reading, and repertoire. For teaching jazz I often use John Riley's "The Art of Bop Drumming" series as a source of practice material. For grasping the feel of various music styles, I will often listen to recordings with a student, and help them figure out what the drummer or percussionist is doing, and how to play it. Read More

Instruments: Guitar, Drums, Bass Guitar, Ukulele, Conga

It is an amazing feeling to see my students happy with the music they are learning! I give my students the music foundations and concepts so they can learn the music they want to play. This keeps them enjoying what they are learning. They work at their own pace and know that they are learning and having fun! I also encourage them to listen to a lot of musicans on youtube, so they can have some influences that will help them with musicality, creativity and improvisation as they keep going! Read More

Instruments: Drums, Mallet Percussion, Conga, Latin Percussion, Music, Djembe

For my beginner students, I usually start with how to properly hold the drumsticks. If a student doesn't have proper technique while playing the drums, they won't progress nearly as fast. I then like to go into learning rudiments and basic drum grooves. Once they start to get comfortable on a drum set, I'll throw in some basic sight reading. The books I mainly use are "Stick Control" by George Lawrence Stone, "The New Breed" by Gary Chester and "Syncopation" by Ted Reed. Read More
