I played the trumpet in middle school, high school, and it was my primary instrument in college. I have also been playing the percussion, particularly drum set, for 15 years and it is still my favorite thing to do. I take the student at his/her own pace. I try to be sensitive to the needs of the student not just his/her musical needs but his/her academic needs as my ability to continue working with the student depends upon his/her academic success. I will suggest a basic routine at home: Housework, Practice, Study, Leisure, Bedtime.
