Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Our music teachers understand that every student has different needs and abilities and therefore the lessons will be planned with that knowledge in mind.
lessons are available in the following areas:
Instruments: Drums, Latin Percussion, Djembe
Typically, lesson plans are build around students goals. Some students may not have an interest in learning from a "traditional" approach from a book. Although this is highly recommended, I create different lesson plans for each individual student. I typically use and coach students from "Stick Control: for the snare drummer", "Syncopation for the modern drummer" and "The Blue Book" for drums. From time to time, I have also taught with "fakebook" charts for jazz drummers as well as play along tracks of various artists. Read More

The following are books that I start my lessons with. In addition, I supplement with materials that my students are interested in learning. If there is a particular song or style that they would like to learn(and is reasonably within their ability level or I am able to modify), I work to teach it to them. Drums: ***The book chosen depends on a student's level and personal goals, but these are great books to start with: Drumset For Preschoolers by Andy Ziker(for students ages 2-6, or students that would benefit from a color-coded system initially) The Drumset Musician By Rod Morgenstein and Rick Mattingly(great for beginning drum beats!) Alfred's Drum Method(for learning rhythms and rudiments) A Fresh Approach to the Drumset by Mark Wessels with Stanton Moore(teaches an intro to a variety of styles, including rock, samba, jazz, etc.) Piano: Alfred's All-in-One Course This book has simple, child-centered lessons that are reasonably paced, teaches beginning music theory, and allows students the opportunity to write. I am more relaxed and fun-loving, but I encourage quality musicianship. You enjoy something more when you have put in more work. More effort = more reward. Music really gives opportunities for each step of success to be met with ways to enjoy that conquered step, also. It's not so arduous as becoming an astronaut, etc., where you may have 10 or twenty steps in between enjoying their success. And with technology these days, there are way more ways to have fun with music! Read More

Depending on the age and personality, I cater each lesson to the individual. If they are younger students, I'll use Mel Bay or Hal Leonard books, but sometimes I will make a custom book that builds with their development and learning style. I believe reading sheet music is important, but understand that being able to play along with other musicians using ear training and improv skills, as well as reading chord charts, is just as necessary. I have been drumming since I was 6 years old (currently 19) and have taking classes and professional training, as well completed several certifications. I studied both western music and Indian Bollywood and some Indian classical music, amongst latino and Caribbean styles of music. Therefore, I would say I'm pretty well versed in different styles of playing and cultures. Furthermore, I also have studied the rudiments and can help teach marching band type of drumming. Read More
