My lessons are safe spaces, judgment free zones, and, most of all, a time to have fun. As a teacher, I always encourage my students to explore the wide world of music and find the artists and styles that really motivate them. I mix technical skill development (I've accumulated a number of exercise books and worksheets over the years) with playing along to the music you love—because that's how I learned! Read More

I've been teaching for about 10 years, since my friends started asking for lessons and I noticed I was always willing to let others try my instruments in a way I see other musicians often are not. I cater each lesson to each individual student and their needs/desires, therefore no lesson or student has the same lesson plan. In my time at Vassar, I was selected to join the school's Jazz Band as the sole bassist my Freshman year, I played bass in the orchestra where I spent time as the principal bassist, and led a small Jazz combo as well. Nothing turned out well if it was rushed, and only diligent routines kept me on track. I stress that same lesson in my teaching. If a student wants to improve their playing, the only way forward is through practice. So, one of the best ways to improve drumming is by practicing how to practice. This technique can be used in every aspect of the student's life and is one of the most valuable skills anyone can have. Read More
