I love teaching and seeing development in students. I have been coaching basketball in Delaware county for almost 6 years now. Bringing the best out of students is the job of any coach or instructor. I believe that students that want to be the best at their instrument really do have greatness inside of them. They just need a leader to pull that out. When teaching a student, I always put an emphasis on fundamentals. Read More

I have been teaching on and off since 2010 and now teach almost exclusively from my home studio in Bloomington, IN. I've had the experience of teaching everyone from 4 year olds to advanced adult students and implemented various teaching methods for the many different minds learning styles. I always liked to look at the art of music like learning a language so I have since learned to create individualized lesson plans for my students that gives students plenty time to "speak", that is learning the fundamentals, phrases, and tools to share their personal story and to study the vast pedigree of music that has come before them. My views on teaching or being an instructor are vast. Every individual is different and their understanding of rhythm, melodies, chord structure, and time signatures can vary even though the fundamental structure of music and theory is relatively the same. What do YOU want to learn!? In order for me to teach you, I need to learn about yourself in order to assess the best way to help your overall instrument skills. What kind of music do you like? What is your current skill set? What are your overal goals and aspirations? These things help me to provide a curriculum that is specific for each individual students needs. Each student is blessed with a specific skill set and talents, and it's only right that I spark an interest and a desire for students to want to practice, and become excited for the next lesson. My teaching experience dates back to my senior year of high school 10 years ago.  My mother is a teacher, and got me my first job tutoring math for one of her teacher's assistants.  During the first couple of years, I had a number of math and music students and learned the benefit of tailoring my teaching methods to the individual rather than using a one size fits all teaching approach.  I try to listen to the student's interests and skills so that I can develop a practice routine that is both fun and beneficial for them specifically.  I also have found that the best teachers that I have had, exposed me to music that I would have never discovered on my own.  I believe that students should both enjoy their lessons and their practice.  I also firmly encourage them to perform and create their own original projects so that they are really experiencing and benefiting from their newly learned strengths.
