For beginning students I like to find out how much experience they have had in music and find out what they want to get out of these lessons. If they are just starting out I'll start with the basics, how to hold a drumstick, the parts of the drum set, correct posture, etc. I believe that all students regardless of age and level should learn how to read music. I started teaching right after high school, helping at band camps and during the season. I started giving lessons soon after and in 2007 I was offered the oppurtunity to be the drumline instructor for a local high school. I would teach there until 2012. I wrote exercises, cadences, their show music, and taught them all the fundementals of marching and proper playing technique.
