I encourage my students to set short as well as long term goals so that they can have a timetable of tangible results as motivators to get to the next level. I always take into consideration the amount of time that we have together (number of lessons per month) in order to reach these goals so I am able to keep everything on track. Every lesson is going to be structured with a few fundamental topics (snare technique, sight reading, styles, grooves, and soloing). Read More

The sound environment should be dry enough so the students are able to hear themselves, the instructor, and the people they perform with clearly. Students will be most successful with reliable instruments that are capable of producing excellent tone. If students do not move on to professional music careers, their learning experience will still be valuable. Studying music is proven to have benefits for all people. Teamwork, responsibility, preparation, metacognition, self-discipline, and time management are only a few examples of the many life skills that students develop while learning music. Read More

I began teaching music while I was in college. Although I was not an education major, I did take education classes and learned a lot about pedagogy during my time in college. I have taught music theory/piano to many students over the years. I have provided many of those students with the skills to set them up to continue learning independently or to seek out learning new instruments. Read More
