Because the youth were at a Behavioral Health part of the hospital, I learned to incorporate mental health strategies using rhythms and music for self expression and stress reduction. For beginner children, I like to use the Suzuki Method. For adults and intermediate to advanced children, I use a combination of books from different authors e.g. Taffanel Gaubert Flute Method, Marcel Moyse books, for technique development and also many pieces from the classical repertory. I also let the students choose pieces of any style that theyre interested in playing and they can handle.
