I like to use Trevor Wye's methods when I teach. I own the 6 volumes and I recommend that my students buy at least one of his books as well. For more advanced players, I introduce Paul Edmund-Davies' Daily Exercises. I have been honored to teach and also prepare several students in my life. Some of them are today accomplished musicians, others are yet in music schools. For example I have 3 students already in Berklee and another student is in Juliard, NY. Other students, are non musicians wanting to learn saxophone and music. Every student has different interests and a different learning style. I customize every lesson and lesson plan to meet the needs of my students. The first lesson is focused on my assessment of a students skills, interests, and learning styles. From there I will determine the most useful resources for each student. I will work with the method book that is being used in a student's school, in addition to method books designed for individual skill development such as the Rubank Method Books or Suzuki Method for string instruments. For children, I encourage parents to be a part of the learning process and ask that they regularly come to lessons. Especially for younger students, having the support of the parent will make all the difference in the world. Lessons with me are fun and engaging but also very practical. Allison is a flutist from Miami, FL, who has been playing since she was 9 years old. A graduate from University Miami with several scholarships, as well as finishing up her Master's under scholarship from University of North Texas, she has studied with some of the top instructors in the country. Her primary teachers are Trudy Kane, Mary Karen Clardy. She just recently finished a Teaching Fellowship at UNT, where she was responsible for teaching undergraduate non-performance majors (music ed and pre-music) and jazz saxophonists how to double on the flute.
