My teaching experience goes back to my high school days when I taught flute, clarinet, and saxophone to beginning students. I "taught" my way through music college at a busy studio in the Philadelphia area, and always had a waiting list - from novice, to intermediate and advanced, to adult students. Upon graduation, I was hired by the college to teach flute, saxophone, and music theory, which I did for over 10 years, in conjunction with a busy performance schedule. Read More

The moment of accomplishment when a student learns a new note or a new piece is what motivates both teachers and students! I think it is very important to celebrate the accomplishments along the way, and I often incorporate weekly games or challenges to motivate practicing. My instruction is unique to every student's needs, as every student grows in different ways. Read More

For beginning woodwind students, I start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements or whatever the student's school band book is. Once the student knows how to read music and can play enough notes, I like to introduce scales. This provides a good foundation for moving on to duets and solo pieces, which are more enjoyable to play. Once the student has finished the first Essential Elements book, I like to move on to the Rubank books. Read More
