I am a graduate of Texas Tech University. I began teaching privately in 1985 on the Lubbock ISD Music Tutorial Program. I went into the schools and taught students privately during class hours. I taught Tuba and Baritone Horn. In 1989 I began teaching with Lubbock Parks and Recreation in the community centers. This was more generalized. I taught Band Instruments, Voice, Guitar, Music Theory, Beginner Piano, Beginner Strings. For beginners I generally use Rubank method. I feel this text is complete and covers all of the material that beginning woodwind players need. The intermediate method has even more material as well as repertoire to start the important process of learning longer pieces of music. I stress the fundamentals as this is the basis of all good playing. For my jazz students I use texts by Keller, Weiskopf, Fishman and transcriptions. Read More

I began teaching in my 8th grade year, taking on beginning flute students and continuing on with them as they grew in profficiency and eventually joined the ranks of the High School band program. During my time at Calallen High School, I taught private lessons, as well as conducted the Marching Band as Drum Major, and taught the entire ensemble. Finding what inspires the student is an important part of my teaching. With this information I can successfully tailor my instruction to the students desires and needs. I acknowledge accomplishments which helps fuel the students desire to progress and makes them eager to learn. It is important that the student progress at their own pace. My teaching experience began in high school when I started teaching beginning flute players and then branched out to advanced high schoolers as well. I encourage my students to keep performance goals in mind such as recitals and competitions. I focus on tone and musicianship development through various exercises, etudes, and classic repertoire. I love motivating my students to further their musicianship and I also love helping my students connect things they learn in music to things in their everyday life. Read More
