I have over 40 years in the music business performing, teaching, recording, composing. I can teach most types and styles of music and I specialize in improvisation. I love being able to send students on their way for the day knowing that they put their best foot forward. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing my students succeed and enjoy learning music. I encourage the students to progress at their own pace, while offering some challenge at each level. I use incentives to encourage the students to continue to progress, while getting a sense of accomplishment. I am encouraging, gentle, demonstrate techniques, and help where students struggle. I first began teaching flute when I volunteered at the local high school to teach flute sectionals. I also took on some beginning students and taught private lessons for about 2 years before placing my focus on my studies while attending college. I have been volunteering to teach flute students at my local middle and high schools since in 2023. My teaching experience has been a part of my life for over 12 years starting with my leadership in my high school band specifically with brass instruments. I continued to pursue music education in college where I developed varied techniques and approaches to a variety of instruments through my time spent with some great teachers that identified my challenges and helped me to overcome them. My experience has always been with beginners and earlier musicians, but my tenure in Avery County has given me more experience with intermediate and advanced players that have auditioned and performed in All-District and other Honors Bands throughout North Carolina.
