As a musician myself, I enjoy the cooperative element of music so I readily have an instrument around that I can play along with the student to help further innate musicianship for all skill levels of instrumentalists. For beginners I enjoy using Standards of Excellence from Kjos publishing or Sound Innovations from Alfred publishing and custom tailor exercises to fit the strengths and challenges of every student I teach. I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. In 1977, I graduated from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Performance. In 1999, I was certified to teach Music K-12 by the state of North Carolina after attending NC Central University. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing my students succeed and enjoy learning music. I encourage the students to progress at their own pace, while offering some challenge at each level. My teaching began in the first year of my undergraduate degree. I was hired on as an adjunct to coach sectionals for a small school who later went on to get high marks on their marching assessment that year.
