My teaching began in the first year of my undergraduate degree. I was hired on as an adjunct to coach sectionals for a small school who later went on to get high marks on their marching assessment that year. After doing that I made sure to do 20-30 minutes of scales just to make sure I work on my fundamentals. I might work with the student to make a practice journal so that they can possibly hold themselves accountable and so we can both track what they are doing! In 1977, I graduated from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Performance. In 1999, I was certified to teach Music K-12 by the state of North Carolina after attending NC Central University.
