I like to begin all my students on a combination of technical studies and enjoyable/familiar melodies. This will help them learn the fundamentals in a rewarding way, because as they progress they will continue to learn new songs week after week. This is much more rewarding than checking of series of technical exercises. My teaching experience began about 2 years ago as I started teaching private lessons part time. I started out with beginning piano lessons in my home studio. For the past 9-10 months I have built up my studio more and increased my number of piano students. I encourage regular practice and include incentives for extra practice. Teaching music is my life's passion. I followed that passion to earning a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of Evansville in 2011. Since then I have been teaching students of all ages and levels. Since earning my degree I have performed on stages across the country in pit orchestras, bands, choirs, opera performances and as a solo artist on various instruments including the voice. I use many different methods, and I do not limit myself to the following list. I believe in a warm-up for all instruments, so each lesson will start with one (scales, long tones, etc.) For flute, I often start with either the book that comes with the rental book, old band books, etc. then I venture off into etude books, long tone books, and solos that promote individual development. Voice students will start with warm up exercises that help them find the placement of the voice and often, depending on why they are taking voice, there is a song that I pick and a song they pick.
