I like to begin all my students on a combination of technical studies and enjoyable/familiar melodies. This will help them learn the fundamentals in a rewarding way, because as they progress they will continue to learn new songs week after week. For any level of flute students I use the Rubank Method books. These books come in varying levels. I would assess what the student plays and knows and then figure out which book would best fit the student's abilities. As the student progresses, I will begin to search for supplemental books or repertoire based on the student's interests. In school, I like to mix it up with a variety of genres and styles to try to teach the students a better appreciation for a variety of music. I started playing the flute before 6th grade and instantly fell in love with the flute and with music. Inspired by the wonderful music teachers I had over the years, I strive to provide that same level of care, knowledge, fun, and passion for music to all of my students. In 2011, I graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Flute Performance.
