For older students, I begin them in the Trvor Wye Method for Beginning Flute Students. I supplement both these methods with solos appropriate for their level and goals, such as UIL and other competitions. I approach teaching with a fun atmosphere, laid back to be comfortable to ask questions, develop passion for music to allow progress and praise to build confidence so students want to try more difficult music to help build that motivation and eagerness to learn. For every student. We can work on any material. From Classical to Jazz to Pop to Video game music. I am open to anything they are working on or wanting to work on. The material can be any type of difficult and any style. My job is to teach the fundamentals of flute sound production and make sure the student isnt working so hard to make a beautiful sound. For students, if any caliber, I start by teaching fundamentals. Fundamentals make it possible to enjoy playing the instrument. This includes things like scales, breathing exercises, warmups. After that I then will begin teaching skills. Often times, when playing an instrument, one skill is made up of multiple skills. I like to focus on the smaller skills and fine tune them so students can grow on their instruments.
