As a student I performed in all school recitals and participated in the former Yugoslavian national competitions where I won the second and third place. My methods vary between each student. For beginning students, that are not learning in a school setting, I typlically start with Hal Lenard's Essential Elements For Band. Once the student had progressed, I will start to introduce solo repetoire that the student will be instested in, which could be pop tunes or other type of music. I have lots of experience teaching; I began teaching in my private in-home studio right after college about 6 years ago. I was even interviewed about my teaching and performing for papers in the Delmarva region. In educational outreach I have performed serveral times over the last couple years with the Musical Ambassadors Program that the Richmond Symphony founded, playing woodwind quintet music in schools all over Virginia and teaching the kids about elements of music and the instruments we play. As an instructor, my job is to give the student every opportunity possible to discover their passion for music. The first lesson is always about providing a safe relaxed tone and finding out where that student's progress is. Not establishing an accurate assessment of their progress can be very destructive because it could cause me to come off as either too demanding or condescending. I am an experienced flutist and teacher currently serving the DC Metro area, and I love teaching students of all ages and skill levels, from beginners picking up the flute for the very first time to advanced students preparing for County Band auditions and beyond, to adult students interested in learning a new skill. I received my Master of Music in Flute Performance from the New England Conservatory, and Bachelor of Music in Performance from George Mason University, and am continually improving my skills as a flutist by taking auditions for orchestras and festivals around the country.
