Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Our music teachers understand that every student has different needs and abilities and therefore the lessons will be planned with that knowledge in mind.

I have given lessons to students who are just starting out and high school students preparing for auditions and/other performances. I highly encourage students to start taking lessons as early as possible to establish good habits and break bad ones. I typically have unique lesson plans and approaches for each student once technique and basics have been learned, as everyone tends to learn differently from everyone else. However, I always like to start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, and I like to take exercises from my own collection that I've accumulated over the years, and determine which exercise is needed based on which aspects of playing a student might need working on. I also like to introduce pieces and exercises that appeal across all different genres in an effort to teach a holistic approach to music and the reach that the flute/piccolo has. Specifically, I like to use the Hal Leonard Rubank Method for Flute and work through those books, as this is the way I learned. It's also important to incorporate solo pieces into their repertoire, as gaining experience with performance is a crucial element to overall musicianship. Read More

Because music and the flute is a constant art of improving, I find it beneficial to record students so they can hear themselves as others do. Having recordings of a student also allows them to remember where they started and where they have grown to. I find that positive reinforcement of all elements of flute playing are essential.
